Day 12

Jan 12, 2021

## **TODAY’S SCRIPTURE**
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.”

### **THOUGHT FOR TODAY:**
James reminds us that we were made to thrive in a community of faith, a safe space to admit our struggles so that, together, we can turn to God in prayer for healing and recovery.
He then encourages us to a fervency in our prayer lives. Citing Elijah as an example of tenacity in prayer, James encourages us to seek God boldly and regularly. The word "fervent" translates to "earnestly" in this context. To be earnest means to be serious. James is calling us to serious confession for our shortcomings and serious interceding for each other.

### **PRAYER**
Incomparable God of Creation, I thank you for establishing safe relationships where I can share my mistakes and find healing. I accept your invitation to pray fervently for others and to have the kind of faith that believes beyond boundaries. It is in your righteousness and by your mercy that I can live a life of faith. Amen.
