Back To School Shoe Drive
by Gino Grunberg on July 30th, 2020
Last year, HCC's generous response enabled 70 kids to enter the school year with new shoes. This effort was a collaboration directed by Harbor Hope, our ministry partner, whose mission is “No Neighbor with Unmet Needs.” HCC helped to launch Harbor Hope 3 years ago with the vision of serving the under-resourced and marginalized in our community.Even though this school year looks different, there is...  Read More
The World Is Changing!
by Gino Grunberg on July 23rd, 2020
Now that’s an understatement, yet it’s true.  We can kick and scream and choose not to grow or change with it or we can embrace the redemptive disruption we are presently facing. There is a passage of scripture that Jesus taught that I have been mulling over these past few weeks. It's found in Luke 5:36. Jesus is responding to a question from the religious leaders of his day, complaining that he wa...  Read More

As many of you know, things can change daily during this COVID pandemic. The most recent data informing the pandemic's scope has prompted an essential update to the HCC weekly blog.  At yesterday's COVID-19 weekly briefing, the Governor updated our Safe Start guidelines for gatherings, reducing the number of people who gather, due to the record-setting number of people testing positive and the pan...  Read More

A special thanks to Ric Matson and his team (Carl Olsen and Sam Shumaker) for building out the PRAYER PATH on the HCC North property.  This trail is located right across the street from the Gig Harbor YMCA parking lot. The path allows the opportunity to experience and have a prayerful short walk. The path goes completely around the HCC owned property for 1/3 of a mile. It makes for a nice prayer s...  Read More
LOVE Everyone, Always!
by Gino Grunberg on July 1st, 2020
One of my favorite books this past year was Bob Goff's book: Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People.Bob is one of the happiest people you’ll ever meet because he lives generously. Midway through his book, he provides a great metaphor that reflects this reality:When I was in elementary school, we put on the classic play Peter Pan. I tried out for the role ...  Read More

Listening And Learning About Inequality
by Gino Grunberg on June 17th, 2020
Thank you to those who participated in our Three Days of Prayer, Fasting + Lament initiative this week. This is an essential foundation in becoming people who are called to "the ministry of reconciliation."What is our next step? There is a great line I heard last week that answers that question: "You can't do better if you don't know better."When it comes to inequality, we must listen and learn. Th...  Read More
Join Us In Prayer
by Gino Grunberg on June 10th, 2020
In the Lord’s prayer, Jesus reminds us that when we pray, we should ask that “His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In other words, heaven is the model of what should be happening here on earth. So what is heaven like? When you read the last book of the Bible called Revelation, you will see a beautiful scene taking place in heaven with these words: “And they sang a new song with these word...  Read More
Painful Reminders Of Injustice
by Gino Grunberg on June 3rd, 2020
Sheila Wise Rose has written a very insightful and penetrating book I have been reading this week called “Healing Racial Trauma.” At the very beginning of the book, she quotes Martin Luther King’s speech he made in 1968.“In the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard.”We have certainly seen Dr. King's quote play out this past week across the country. We have witnessed our own urban c...  Read More
