Our Vision: Become a YOURFIRST church

For the past two Sunday mornings, we have been laying out a foundation for HCC 2.0. This has been a series designed to help us recalibrate the vision and mission of HCC for a post-Covid era.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend in person or online, I encourage you to listen to last weeks talk and “Join The Mission.” (CLICK HERE or watch it on your HCC App under media)

Our mission is “to help people find and follow Jesus.” This has been our purpose since we started in the fall of 1995 with 18 people in our living room.

Certainly, times have changed, and the pandemic has altered many things in our culture and future. Yet, the mission remains steady, “help people find and follow Jesus.”

How do we do that? By becoming a YOUFIRST church.

Jesus was once asked by a teacher of the law, “Of all the commandments that exist, what are the most important ones? Jesus answered with these words from Mark 12:30:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

Simply put, Love God and Love people. That is profoundly straightforward. How do we live that out?

Jesus continually calls us to live a life that says “God YOUFIRST” in all my life. YOUFIRST in my worship, in my work, in my generosity, in my time, in everything. Secondly, with the people I contact within the community, I put myself in a mindset that says, “YOUFIRST.” Rather than focusing on “What’s in it for me?” I begin to ask, “What’s in me that can benefit other people?”

Imagine how that could change your driving habits or how you work alongside people at your job. Thinking about others first will revolutionize your marriage, your relationships and provide opportunities to share the love of God with people who need to “find and follow Jesus”.
